Lucent Dossier Experience performs at The Gobi Stage at Coachella 2014

At Coachella 2014, Lucent Dossier Experience will bring their biggest show yet to the Gobi stage on Sunday night, in addition to spell-bounding performances at The Do LaB stage for their 10th year in a row! Known for their unique fusion of tantalizing dance, aerial maneuvers, and heart throbbing electronic music, Lucent Dossier is set for another year of high impact performance. 

Having just completed their “Solstice of Dreamers Tour” and teaming up with Cirque Du Soleil for their premiere of “Totem” in Los Angeles, Lucent Dossier has an upcoming bicoastal Valentine stint in LA and New York, and a great festival season ahead with Coachella Music Festival, Lightning in a Bottle Festival on May 22-26, and more.

Lightning in a Bottle drops Official 2014 Trailer

Solidifying its position as the premiere boutique festival in California (and likely the entire country) Lightning in a Bottle music and arts festival shows why they simply can't be outdone. 

The video shares both dimensions of what makes this festival special. Both yin and yang are on display as viewers get warmed up only to be dropped into a magical land of sensory overload. 

This video features some of last year's performers including  Purity Ring, NicolasJaar, Rusko,Griz, Tycho, Lucent Dossier Experience, Emancipator, Paper Diamond, Panty Raid, Lee Burridge, and Herbert Bail Orchestra while also providing voice to the elders and children of this beautiful festival experience.

The 2014 Lightning in a Bottle will take place at the San Antonio Recreation Area in Bradley, CA on Memorial Day weekend May 22nd to May 26th. Lake San Antonio sits almost perfectly in between Los Angeles and San Francisco in the beautiful Monterrey County (Google Maps).

Three more LIB musicians Haywyre, Herbert Bail Orchestra, HeRobust

Haywyre has been back in the U.S. since 2008 after living in Austria for a number of years.  Martin Vogt currently resides in Minnesota.  He started in music as a child as a pianist.  Today he takes that keyboard background into the digital world and creates gorgeous mixtures of glitch-hop, dub step and jazz.

Vogt's keys take a front seat on most of the tracks I listened to and that property invited me to listen more and longer.  Haywyre takes a simple melody and adds a nice, complimentary "left hand" then layers in all the other electronic sounds along with samples of real sounds.  I can feel a genuine creative process and hear the talent for skilled composition.  Haywyre's music will definitely have people dancing while feeling the warm-fuzzy kind of happy.

Herbert Bail Orchestra is not only a live band from L.A., they are a rather large group:

Colin Waling - keyboard, piano, vocals

Their most recent album, "The Future's In The Past" is an homage to gypsy folk music.  It definitely is it's own version of musical storytelling.

The group are definitely bards who write some very interesting lyrics.  The sound is folk/indie.  I'm sorry but I'm tempted to don my hipster garb for their set.  But for real I'd like to have some tinker's apparel with me and get into my own Irish traveller heritage for a while.  This is music to listen to, really pay attention and hear the tales being told.  You may come away with more knowledge than you arrived with and you will have felt a number of emotions.

HeRobust  comes in to represent the Southeast.  Hayden Kramer hails from Hotlanta GA. Although only at the electronic music thing for two years, HeRobust has pushed himself to the limit recording and releasing his own music along with collaborations and commissions.  Like most artists who, good things come to those who bust their asses while waiting, Kramer has caught the eye and ear of Skrillex, 12th Planet and Mad Decent among others.  They have spun his tracks live and on their websites helping grow his fanbase.

I like this guy.  He's fun.  On more than one track I got "video game soundtrack" only to learn that that was just the intro.  The songs then grow into more than something to roll monkeys around to.  Some songs have a whimsical feel and others have a wink and a nod.  All of the titles will at least make you smile if not laugh out loud.  Like I said, fun...a whole lot of fun.

Weekend One of Coachella is coming to a close but there's still #2.  If you're going next weekend remember to look up DoLab and checkout the snail from The Giant Storybook Project.  His/Her name is Helix.  DoLab and Lucent rest up for the next few days.  Peeps, get those tickets ordered for LIB. Music line-up for Lightning In A Bottle announced

Today DoLab posted the powerhouse line-up of musical performers for this year's festival.  In its new home at Lake Skinner,  Lightning In A Bottle will welcome Nicolas Jaar, Rusko, Tycho, and Paper Diamond as headliners to this summer’s festival.

Over the past eight years, DoLab’s main event has taken place over the Memorial Day weekend in Oak Canyon Park.  Due to new land use regulations the festival has not only changed its location to Temecula but has also dates.  This year things get rocking on July 11^th and run thru the 14^th.

The music lineup for the the country's premier boutique music and arts festival also includes the sounds of Miguel Migs, Eskmo, Tim Green, Cari Lekebusch, Blockhead, and Kastle. Icon of house François K, indie artist Blackbird Blackbird, L.A.’s own Jason Bentley, Herbert Bail Orchestra plus many others.  Mixtures of performance, music and installation art will be presented by Lucent Dossier Experience and William Close with the Earth Harp.

DoLab co-founder and curator Jesse Fleming sums up the music elements of Lightning In A Bottle like this, "Our goal with the music is to create a positive and uplifting experience, with a good balance of beautiful melodic music and good old party music. After 4 months of in depth research and a lot of listening we tried to cover as many genres as possible that we feel fit the vibe that we're trying to create with Lightning in a Bottle.”

Lucent Dossier - A Faerie Tale for the New Era

Somewhere between 2004 and May of 2006 I learned of the existence of a band called Panic! At The Disco.  These teenagers from Las Vegas had a unique sound.  So unique that they not only didn't fit any genre, their album "A Fever You Can Sweat Out" was actually two parts with the first having more of a steam-punky feel and the second part being a little contemporary pop but more complex.  Their lyrics were well beyond their years due to Ryan Ross's inspiration from his roller coaster life.  When it came time to create a video for their first single "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" someone on their artistic team had the brilliance to pair director Shane Drake with the burlesque cirque troupe, Lucent Dossier.  The resulting video is still brilliant today

The beauty and talent of this group intrigued the hell out of me. I watched many a video and TV performance of Panic! At The Disco just to see these magical creatures.  Some times sultry, some times silly, always costumed to catch the eye, Lucent Dossier was the perfect addition to the band's live performances.  When they did their international arena tour "Nothing Rhymes with Circus", Lucent provided more of its members. It was awesome.

Panic! changed everything up with their sophomore album so I didn't get my dose of Lucent Dossier from them any more.  But then I saw an announcement they were going to be part of The Scream Awards. They got their own episode of Top Chef-Just Desserts.  Every so often I would seen them.  I also scoured the internet to find out if they would ever perform in my part of the world...to no avail.  Until this past Fall when they were signed as artists in residence at The Liberty Theater in Manhattan.  

The name of the show was The Lucent Encounter.  I was there for opening night and what an encounter it was.  Besides all the interactive dancing, acrobatics, vaudeville sketches and live mannequin vignettes happening all around me, I was introduced to members of the troupe include one of the costumers.  I saw the results of friend Hans Haveron's airbrush make-up skills. It was possibly the most magical night of my life to that point.

My feature article on Lucent Dossier has been published in the latest issue of FourCulture magazine.  I got to spend almost an hour with Linda Borini in a small sandwich shop just off Columbus Circle one evening and hear her story of becoming part of Lucent Dossier.  She also helped me to finally put the finger on the biggest difference between the New York and SoCal arts scenes and why I had not been able to find a real East Coast tribe to this point.  Then I connected with Dream Rockwell, founder of the troupe.  She had performed that night in New York.  I knew she was there because we had texted while the goon squad outside was giving me shit about letting me in.  Hans had told me about doing her make-up but we never got any face-time. However, even with a lot of miles between us, we had a major connection in that phone conversation.  I won't even call it an interview because we began building a friendship from the very first words. By the end we had discovered yet another spirit sister on this crazy journey. 

Dream gave me treasures that night that opened my eyes and will help me on my quest. 1) Find the point on your arrow.  The compass needle can't help much if its not giving you a definitive direction.  Find the point. 2) claim the freedom you were born with to be your genuine self.  Once you do that you will be truly happy, joyful, at peace. 3) People who are sincerely happy individuals scare the crap out of people trying to follow some social model that they have been taught is "proper".  Taking it another step from my own meditation....free thinkers and doers are what will shine the light on the dark creatures that have been controlling humanity for too long.  That light will reveal them for the humbugs they are and destroy their "power".  Be brave. Be bold. Be you no matter how eccentric, eclectic, outrageous or just plain weird you are.

This summer I will get to spend four whole days with the fae of Lucent Dossier at Lake Skinner in Temcula, CA.  Lightning In A Bottle was the point on Dream's arrow and Lucent is a staple of the festival.  I am so excited to experience them once again but this time in their native habitat.  I can only imagine that it will be a faerie tale come to life.

	Lucent Dossier at The Liberty Theatre, NYC Huricane Sandy Fund-Raiser this Saturday night Bring Blankets, Coats and Food Tickets Available Here photo by Seze Devres We hit the ground running and quickly nested inside the Liberty Theater on 42nd Street in Times Square, right in the heart of‘Broadway’, WOW!  After days of rehearsals, costume detailing, lights, sound and tech we launched opening night with a BANG.  The venue was at SOLD OUT capacity all night, a full house of revelers and party seekers. The door reported that they turned away over a thousand amazingly dressed people who decided to take a chance on last minute door tickets rather then getting them in advance.  But for those that made it inside, it was a blast!  We saw a lot of friends from the West Coast, thank you to all of you that made the journey! photo by Seze Devres Then we got the news that Hurricane Sandy was making her way to the East Coast. Just a mere two days after our opening night the devastating storm touched down.  It was the largest Atlantic hurricane on record, as well as the second-costliest Atlantic hurricane in history.  The city fell silent; the trains, subways and buses came to a halt and much of Manhattan and the surrounding cities fell into darkness. photo by Seze Devres We had our second show at the theater the following Saturday and though the room filled with beautiful souls excited to feel some joy and playfulness in all the darkness, we definitely felt the effects of the storm that night.  There was a good turn out of people ready to stretch their restless limbs again but there was also a feeling of sadness for those still affected by the storm.  After all that, this Wednesday brought in the Nor’easter, New York’s first snow storm of the season…Mother Nature just keeps on working overtime it seems… hundreds of thousands of people are still without power as the temperatures continue to drop. photo by Seze Devres This Saturday as we go into week three we find ourselves, more then ever, wanting to give what we can to the relief efforts that surround us.  This Saturday the Liberty Theater in conjunction with Lucent will be having a coat, blanket and food drive fundraiser for the victims attempting to put their lives and homes back in order. We will dedicate this weekend and a portion of profits to this effort.
